April is known as National Volunteer month. It offers a great opportunity to recognize all those individuals and organizations who give of themselves to help others.

The impact of volunteerism has increased over the years.  Corporations and businesses encourage their employees to engage in meaningful volunteer activities within the community. Numerous individuals generously donate their time and efforts for both personal and compassionate reasons.

I have been blessed in so many ways in my life, and I am honored to give back to various causes and services throughout the years.  Although I currently volunteer in capacities ranging from assisting the impoverished, to cooking for fundraising events at a local church, one of my favorite activities is supporting Wellspring, a network of cancer-support centers in Canada.

With my passion for photography, I started my website: Notecards By Carol to sell my note cards, inspired by nature and the places I have visited. All net proceeds go to Wellspring.

Wellspring is a cancer-support organization which was an instrumental part of my cancer recovery. Making my notecards is just my way of promoting their wonderful work – a true testament of all that they do for others.  It is amazing to see people embrace these resources in a comfortable setting and to feel positive about their futures.

Wellspring was founded in Toronto in 1992 by Anne Armstrong Gibson.  She had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 1988 and along with fears about the cancer came an overwhelming sense of isolation. She became determined to fill the void of this common experience among cancer patients and worked to establish Wellspring, a non-profit organization offering psychological, emotional, social, spiritual and informational support to individuals and families living with cancer.

Wellspring is led by professionals with more than 40 programs and services to cover a range of categories.  The focus is on the person, not the disease.  Wellspring charges no fees and receives no government or other core funding.  Programs and operations are made possible only through the generosity of donors.  For more information about Wellspring, please visit wellspring.ca.

This blog is dedicated to honoring all of the volunteers in our communities, as well as, encouraging volunteerism. Through volunteering, each of us has something to offer – our time, compassion, expertise, business skills – whatever it may be! In reality, it gives us so much more in return.  I am privileged to be able to help.

My philosophy for selling my note cards is posted on my website: www.notecardsbycarol.com
